Joe's introduction to the outdoors was at the hands of his father who taught him the skills needed to upland bird hunt as well as raise and train English Setters. Joe has many fond memories of walking farmland in the mornings with his father as a good dog worked into the horizon.

Joe has been fortunate enough to hunt and fish in many parts of this country and truly enjoys being in the outdoors. Joe confesses to having to drag himself out of bed to head in to the office but rarely does he need to hear the alarm to go hunting. There is not one aspect of hunting that Joe doesn't cherish from early mornings driving on empty roads to sitting in a blind and watching the sun slip into the western sky and always hoping that he can do it all over again the next day.

Joe's favorite game to hunt is Canada Geese. While Maine is not blessed with the number of geese as other areas, he still lives for being in a field watch these big birds set their wings and toll to the spread. Eider is the traditional waterfowl quarry on the coast of Maine, and Joe spends a great deal of time in a duck boat on the rolling swells of a wintry Atlantic Ocean. Joe admits that he hunts and trains dogs too much to succumb to marriage, but he does have a long time girlfriend, Maggie Berry who, as Joe says, "Has put up with my foolishness for a long time!"

Joe brings years of hunting knowledge, woodsmanship and dog training expertise to the Avery Pro-Staff, and he enjoys the opportunities his position provides for meeting new people who share his passions.
