Steve Mealman was born and raised in Lakeville, MN. He was born May 27 and in early October his dad took him hunting with him for the first time. He put Steve in a car seat in the bottom of the duck blind right next to the dog. His father Dave took him on pretty much every hunting trip he went on after that. The first hunt Steve was able to carry a gun on, was a duck hunting trip to North Dakota with his Father.

Steve is also heavily involved in Labrador Retrievers. Steve runs his 5 labs in both Hunt Tests and Field Trials. He has also been involved in the Super Retriever Series, Great Outdoor Games, and The World Retriever Championship. Steve titled his first dog in AKC hunt tests at 8 years old. What really drives Steve's passion for hunting is being with friends and his dogs out in the field. He feels that there is something really special you share with a dog that is your hunting companion.

Steve's passion for ducks has taken him from Northern Saskatchewan to Argentina, and just about every place ducks and geese fly in the U.S. As co-owner and operator of Firewater lodge Steve puts more miles on his equipment in a year than most people do in a lifetime. Also with his experience in Manufacturing he can bring different ideas on making new products and existing product better for Avery and it customers.
