Eric Fortenberry hails from Glenpool, Oklahoma and is the lead guide for Firewater Lodge in Victor, South Dakota during the fall hunting season. During the off-season he works for Justin Tackett's Super Retriever Series

Eric started out hunting the backwaters of the Arkansas River in Oklahoma where he hunted flooded timber to big open water and everything in between. The hunting was always pretty good and it allowed Eric to learn a lot about his craft, the environment in which he hunted and the animals he pursued. That training has stood him in good stead as lead guide at Firewater Lodge. The lodge is located in South Dakota and it's an amazing place to see when the migration is in full force. There are three large bodies of water within fifteen miles of each other with corn and bean fields in every direction. It is a large staging area for the northern birds.

Being a guide is a wearing but also a very rewarding job and according to Eric: "I can't think of anything else I would rather do for a living." The most rewarding thing about guiding for Eric is getting to introduce young hunters to the sport: that and being able to work your dogs as much as he does makes all the early mornings and sleep deprivation worth it.
