Mark Brendemuehl
Mark was introduced to the outdoors as a toddler when he began tagging along with his dad on trout fishing trips. Next came the afternoon hunting trips where he learned to hunt rabbits, squirrels and grouse while struggling to keep up. As he grew older, pheasants and whitetails were added to Mark's targeted game list, and he eventually evolved into bow hunting as well as competing in 3-D archery tournaments. Waterfowl hunting in Mark's home area of Wisconsin was not popular when he was young because migratory bird numbers were down making places to hunt very hard to come by. One Canada goose hunt on Wisconsin's famous Horicon Marsh, however, hooked Mark on goose hunting for life. At one point in his hunting career, the pursuit of whitetails dominated Mark's time, but several hunts where Mark was able to see some great dogs work to the scent of upland birds or retrieve downed ducks and geese changed all of that. Mark's grandfather raised and trained coon hounds, and he always had dogs as a kid growing up. Hunting over them and seeing what a good dog was capable of doing was awe inspiring to him. Mark's "real job" is a county correctional officer, and he also teaches defensive tactics, spontaneous knife defense, chemical munitions and use of force for his county as well as other counties and organizations around the state. Mark's love of teaching combined with his wealth of hunting knowledge provides a valuable addition to the Avery Pro-Staff. Mark states, "I love getting out and meeting people, putting faces with the names of the sportsmen I meet on the Internet and learning from them just as much as they are learning from me".
