Sporting Dogs Stands - Tips from the Pros

Avery Double-DutyTM Retriever Platform
Joe Williams, Avery Pro Staff, Avery Sporting Dog Specialist

Proper introduction to Avery's Double Duty Retriever Platform is the most crucial step in providing your dog the comfort level required to perform safely and confidently in hunting situations.

Begin the process on a stationary object in your yard, or on your training grounds, by attaching the platform to a tree (clear of limbs) or pole. To start only raise the bottom platform 1' to 2' off the ground and encourage your dog onto the platform and to remain steady. By throwing a couple bumpers for the dog to retrieve from the Avery Double Duty Retriever Platform in a stable situation, will provide your dog a great understanding of what is required when additional factors are presented in actual hunting situations.

Once you see your dog is comfortable with the stand, move it to your boat while the boat is loaded on the trailer and sitting on dry ground (be cautious to do this on soft ground to prevent any unintended injury's), and repeat the above process again. Once the dog is comfortable with the Avery Double Duty Retriever Platform hooked on to your boat while it's on the trailer, its time to move into the water.

Again it's important to start this process in shallow "running water" where the dog's feet can touch the bottom, and then gradually move your boat into deeper water.

This process will allow you to help your dog develop the understanding needed to safely and comfortably use the Avery Double Duty Retriever Platform.

Walk-InTM Dog Stand

If I can't hunt with my dog, I won't hunt. The compact size, shoulder strap for portability, and weight of only 6 lbs allow the Walk-In Dog Stand to accompany me to out of the way areas that can be challenging to find a place for my partner to hunt. I like to strap the Walk-In Dog Stand a couple of trees behind the edge of the hole or field. The dog will be able to see falling ducks, but will be screened from wary birds. Whether it is all the way back in the woods where the ducks are hitting, or along a tree line in a flooded field the Walk-In Dog Stand keeps him dry and comfortable throughout the day.
